Western Canadian Robotics Society

Who are we??

We are a Society dedicated to the advancement of "Personal Robotics" and  robotics competitions in Western Canada.

The WCRS is a non-profit organization devoted to nurturing interest in robotics and robotics competition.

We are proud hosts of the "Western Canadian Robot Games" (WCRG)

We hold monthly Society Meetings filled with special presentations, speakers, robot demo's, and lectures.  These are usually the second Thursday of each Month.

We also have our Robot Builders Meetings (RBM) each Saturday morning at 9:30 am at the Calgary Aerospace Museum.  We have access to our electronics shop, library, metal shop, and wood shop there.  ( You must be qualified in order to use the shop facilities )

What do we do??

The objectives of the WCRS (as defined by our bylaws ) are:
    · To host an annual robotics contest, the Western Canadian Robot Games.
    · To promote an interest in amateur robotics through monthly meetings and
        other special events.
    · To provide for the recreation of its members and afford opportunity for
        friendly and social activities.
    · To provide all necessary equipment and furniture for carrying out its
        various objectives.
    · Provide an opportunity for both formal and informal education in robotic
        applications, hardware and software technologies.
    · Encourage participation by all those interested in personal robotics
regardless of their level of technical knowledge.
    · Facilitate the exchange of information among those with varying abilities,
        equipment and interests.
    · Educate the general public concerning the present and future capabilities
        of robotics.

When is the Western Canadian Robot Games?

Our event is intended for the best Robotisists in the region to compare and compete at a well run event for big prizes and extremely low competitors fee's!  We don't require hundreds of dollars for entering and there are a wide variety of robotics challenges for all levels!

Our 15th Annual Western Canadian Robot Games will be held on May 14, 2005 in the Atrium of the Heart building at SAIT.  It is one of the longest running robotics competitions in North America!  Have a look at some pictures and video's at http://www.robotgames.net/pictures.htm  .  Our robotics contest has spun off many sister competitions such as the Manitoba Robot Games, Vancouver Robotics Collective, Eastern Canadian Robot Games, and NAIT's robotics challenge.  There are plenty of events to take your creation to!  We also have brought the First Lego League to Alberta in 2003!
